Featuring Vocalists Competing in 1 of 4 Style Categories:

1. Classical/Musical Theatre/Broadway/Belt
2. Pop/Rock/Contemporary
3. County/Folk
4. Hip Hop/R&B/Jazz

(Categories may be combined depending on number of participants)
3 Age Divisions in each Style Category:
Jr. Junior: 8 –13
Junior: 14 - 18
Adult: 19 +

This contest will be conducted as outlined on our website and will last approximately 3 months with each singer competing every 2 weeks until the champions are crowned. Division Champions will be crowned in each style division and then will move on to compete for the title of Grand Champion.

Recruiting:

Since there will be no contest without contestants, we need help in recruiting talented people to compete and are offering prize money to the persons who recruits the Division Champions in each age division. Singers will be ask to name whomever introduced them to the contest, if anyone, at registration.

The Prizes:

Estimated $2,250 in prize money for each age division, divided as follows:
Style Category Champions ($250 each) $ 1000
Age Division Champion (best of 4 style champions) $ 500
Singer with the best over all attendance: $ 250
Recruiting $ 250
One third share toward Grand Champion: $ 250
Grand Champion: Best out of all 4 Division Champions $ 750

The Judging:

Judging Procedure

  • Each round will be judged by two professional judges.

  • Contestants will be judged according to technique, presentation, vocal beauty, interpretation and understanding of the musical genre.

Audience
  • Each singer is asked to bring out at least 6 supporters when they perform.
  • Audience members may purchase tickets in advance.
  • The singer who brings in the most audience members throughout the entire contest will receive prize money.

Official Rules:

  • To register, singers must submit a completed entry form at www.utahtalentshowdown.com

  • Registration fee of $35 will be due upon notice of acceptance. Fees are payable online via PayPal.

  • A mandatory meeting will be held prior to the contest to discuss rules and procedures and draw for bracket positioning to set dates and times.

  • All singers are required to check in 30 minutes prior to the beginning of the round of competition.

  • Each singer must come prepared to perform 2 songs (1 faster, 1 slower ) not to exceed 8 minutes in length and that has not been performed in a previous round. There will be two minutes between performances to allow for set-up.

  • Accompaniment is not provided by house. Singers must bring their own accompanists. A house piano is available. Singers may also bring a minus-track CD accompaniment (no lead vocals).

  • Sound system and technician will be provided by the house.

  • Musical selection should not be suggestive or contain off-color language and must be appropriate for the family-type audience usually in attendance. Non-adherence to this policy will be grounds for disqualification from the competition.
